April 2020 Update:
The banner shot is a picture I took of the Crow Wing River last week. I'd hoped to share a dramatic snapshot of the ice breaking up, but this year's ice-out happened overnight.
We expect to operate the outfitting this year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will open when it's safe for everyone. In the meantime, stay well and call us if you have any questions. George and I look forward to seeing you again soon.
Just imagine...paddling a canoe or kayak down the scenic and clear Crow Wing River, past stands of Red Pine and through birch and maple forests...where you will see great blue herons, eagles, otters, turtles, deer and numerous other species of birds and four-legged wildlife.
If you are planning to experience the Crow Wing River by canoe or kayak, whether it be for a few hours or a few days, let our friendly staff at Gloege's Northern Sun Canoe & Kayak Outfitting assist you with your river adventure needs.
The Crow Wing River is a gentle, sand-bottom river that flows about three miles per hour through forests, marshes, grasslands and bogs. The rapids on the river are Class I, meaning they are the easiest difficulty rating. This makes the river perfect for families young and old, scouting organizations, youth and church groups, and anyone seeking some time away on one of the most beautiful wilderness rivers in Minnesota.
Gloege's Northern Sun Canoe & Kayak Outfitting is a client-based and family-run business providing outfitting services on the Crow Wing Canoe Trail since 1970. We rent canoes, kayaks, and camping gear and provide transportation services. We also have a small campground for our clients. Let our knowledgeable staff help you plan a memorable canoe trip.
Gloege's Northern Sun Canoe & Kayak Outfitting is located near the village of Nimrod in north central Minnesota. We are about 100 miles east of Fargo/Moorhead and about 150 miles north and west of the Twin Cities.
